We made our very own pancake batter from scratch today in the Lime Class and did procedural writing on the steps that we took. We measured the ingredients out on the weighing scales which tied in with our topic of the week in Maths- weight. In the afternoon we invited Stephen's class in to join us and we made pancakes in the frying pan on the hotplate. We did lots of pancake flipping and it was lots of fun! Everyone had a chance to eat some of the pancakes with a little lemon juice and sugar, yum! We were lucky to have a visit today from a fantastic storyteller in school. Fiona entertained the children with riddles and stories. She even let us have a go on her cool instrument from Zimbabwe. It was lots of fun! We performed in senior assembly today and told everyone about what we've been learning on the Ancient Egyptians. The children had learned an 8 verse poem which they recited brilliantly. They wore their art creations too- Egyptian jewellery they made in our Art lesson this week. These included gold torcs, necklaces, bracelets, headbands and crowns. We decorated them with geometric designs and jewels. It was a great chance to show them off! Well done Lime Class. We're learning all about Ancient Egypt at the moment. Here is a list of some websites you can research for homework. Please have a fun fact to share with the class tomorrow. Happy Researching!

Each class had a turn to go outside and plant a different species of tree. We were lucky enough to go up on the hill and plant the Scot's Pine trees. Click this link to read some details about the tree and what it will look like in years to come when it's fully grown. We loved getting our hands dirty! We got a very exciting parcel today in the post. Our penguin postcards that the children had made were returned to us with the authentic Antarctica stamp. We sent them in late November and they travelled all the way to a science station in Antarctica where a colony of penguins live. A lovely lady called Jean Pennycook sent them back to us after stamping each one individually. She also sent me back some US dollars as I sent money to pay for the postage and there was some left over. The children will get their postcards back but they won't get the dollars! See the stamped postcards below. We are excited to announce that the Science Fair will be on in the school shortly. All details can be viewed here. Your child brought home a Science Fair information pack last week too that explains what is involved and gives you some ideas to get you and your child started. Any questions at all, please ask me in person at the line or contact me via email. I look forward to seeing all the interesting projects!
We finished our group projects on clothes this week. Each group had to present their project to the class and discuss what they had learned. The children had to keep eye contact with their audience, use the correct vocabulary and use full sentences. Before each group's presentation we enjoyed a little music from the time and chatted about what life was like then. I brought in some clothes from the style of the time too. It was great fun and I was very proud of the children's hard work. Well done Lime Class! |
