The children had a chance to enjoy many activities over Heritage Week. We visited the school mini-museum to look at artefacts and discuss when and what they might have been used for. The children filled in a worksheet on their favourite artefact. On Tuesday, we attended an interactive talk from an archaeologist. She brought along lots of objects for us to see and feel: shields, pottery, weapons, jewellery, coins, dice, a purse, shoes and a diving mask she wears for underwater excavations. We learned about 'stratification' and the different types of sites that are excavated. It was fantastic! On Wednesday, we had very special visitors in our classroom for Grandparents Day. Two of my aunties visited to chat to them about life years ago (1940's & 50's) growing up on a farm in the Midlands. They showed them childhood photos and it brought up some interesting discussion. The children were amazed that they had 11 children in their family, no TV and hardly any toys but managed to have lots of fun playing outside and inventing their own games. They learned what school was like back then and the different subjects they did. We were delighted they came in and it was a highlight of the week. What: The Secret Life of Pets Movie Night

Each project must have: A title, information organised into sections with subtitles, pictures, fun facts, list of group members involved and what they did. The special achievement award is a fantastic award to receive. It rewards success as a result of hard work and perseverance. Heitor has worked so hard since the start of the year and we can see that it's really paying off now! His reading, writing and spelling have improved dramatically and he should be very proud of himself and the effort he has put in. Well done Heitor, you are fantastic!
We had a great first week back & loved catching up with each other about what we did over the holidays. We started the topic of money in Maths & the children brought in a number of different currencies: Nigerian, Brazilian, Polish, Russian & old Irish coins & notes. Our brainstorming sessions led to interesting conversations around demonetisation, converting currencies of different countries & how they relate to the euro, using ATMs & bank cards. We started the topic of clothes in history & science & discovered what materials clothes are made from by investigating clothes labels. We created observational drawings of our shoes & runners in Art & worked really hard to look at the object 70% of the time and at the page only 30% of the time. Sophia was our star pupil of the week- she really listened and contributed well to class discussion. On Friday we performed at the whole school assembly by reciting a New Year poem and telling everyone what we learned this week. Well done Lime Class!
