Our proud students of the week in Senior Assembly are pictured above. Well done to Joseph for being helpful and polite to his class peers, teacher and other school staff. He used kind words and was considerate of others. Maith thú Joseph, we're very proud!
We celebrated World Water Day by taking part in the 'Walk for Water' challenge in the school yard. This was to highlight the distance travelled every day by some people in the world to get clean water. We carried 6 litres of water for 6 full laps of the yard and everyone took their turn to carry it.
On Monday we had our inspection for the Water flag and fingers crossed we will receive our flag soon! We started off the week by doing very interesting science experiments with PhD students that visited the school. They did a workshop with our class and had 4 stations with a different experiment at each one. It was very interesting and the children had lots of fun. We had a great time celebrating all things Irish this week in school. Each day we played a game where children in the class asked questions as Gaeilge to one class member and the one who answered the most questions correctly was the winner. The Gaelgóir an Lae got a trophy and Irish hat for the day. I was very impressed with the children's ability to come up with questions as Gaeilge and answer them correctly.
On Wednesday, we had a chance to perform our Irish play- Gilín Sneachta. Everyone worked hard to remember their lines and actions and they did a fantastic performance. I was very proud. A recording of the performance can be viewed here. On Thursday we had a chance to enjoy some Irish music in Andy's classroom. Andy and his father played some Irish tunes on the guitar, accordian and tin whistle. We all sang along and some children even did some Irish dancing too. We took part in a céilí with the children in the Gaelscoil too and enjoyed practising our Irish and dancing with them. A video of the céilí can be viewed here. We won the prestigious award of Best Third Class in the country this week. We had entered the competition at the start of the year and had a very special visitor on Wednesday of this week. She looked at all of our hard work we have done since the start of the year and was very impressed with the on-going effort and determination of the children in the Lime Class. Everyone got a certificate and had no homework for the evening so they could enjoy themselves in the sunshine! Well done Lime Class!
Heitor was awarded student of the week for persevering in the Engineers Week construction challenge and being the first in the class to succeed in the weight challenge. Everyone had to build structures (cube, triangle-based pyramid and square-based pyramid) out of cocktail sticks and blue tac. He worked really hard and focussed on the task at hand. We have seen a real improvement in his spelling and reading too. Maith thú Heitor!
We were lucky enough to have real engineers visit our classroom today. They came from Blanchardstown IT and told us about the exciting projects they're working on. They said we had some brilliant ideas and they can see there are budding scientists and engineers in our school. We worked in groups to do engineering activities directed by them. It was great fun! We had such a fun morning today in the Lime class. Dale paid us a visit and brought us on a walk all around Tyrrelstown House garden with the lovely owner Mark, where we learned lots about trees and had a chance to see many different types. Here's a list of the trees we saw:
The children in Lime Class are performing Snow White as Gaeilge next Wednesday in the Seachtain na Gaeilge show. We're doing lots of practising in class and would greatly appreciate any of the following items that could be borrowed for the show:
